Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - A collaboration in 4 chapters

Since I can't really talk about any new projects I am working on right now, I decided to close off a project we finished last week: Last year salon alpin and I got asked to help the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung to bring some of their content into illustrated, animated stories. Over a year we set out to direct four animations together with a group of journalists and the chief editor. All 4 different topics varied quite a bit, but most of them were grander themes or issues the journalists wanted to tackle and felt the need to visualize it instead of just writing about it.

It was fun to always start with a journalist's article, that we then brought into a script that also would work for an animation. With only 6-8 weeks of production time for each film, it was quite a challenge to rewrite the script, illustrate and animate everything, work with the voice over and add music and sound design. My biggest challenge was to establish a simple yet extraordinary visual language for FAZ, that could work for all stories, as well as produce and direct everything with a great team. For animation salon alpin collaborated with LWZ as well as Lawrence Blankenbyl. The music and sound came all from Gabriel Schönangerer.

In the end, it is simple, nice storytelling, with a coherent look and a color code for each story, that got pushed on the newspaper's website as well as on social media. It was amazing to see the viewing numbers rise up to 15k within a week any film got published and that people immediately started to discuss the topics. A nice project with a very nice, grateful client that trusted us very much.
