Over the last years, I figured that I get a lot of inspiration and satisfaction out of work that is very hands on. It calms my mind, gets me off the computer and inspires a lot of my branding and design work. Not only did I learn how to goldsmith, but I found somebody who thought me how to turn wood and last weekend I took part in a workshop about a material called jesmonite.

Organized by the great design studio MOOI and the creative region this took part in an old ceramics workshop in the middle of nowhere. The amazing thing: they flew in two absolute pros from the UK: olivia aspinall - the material expert and claire baily from ornamental grace who is a pro mould maker and artist.

So we set out to create a jesmonite bowl. From the mould making with silicon to the coloring of the jesmonite, the chips making (for the special terrazzo look) and the pour of the whole thing. finishing it off with some heavy sanding and polishing. two days of work and fun with 15 other creatives from all over Austria.

Jesmonite is an amazing material which has been around for more than 30 years and only now got into the hands of designers and artists. I loved to work with it but even more impressive and catching was the passion olivia and claire brought into the workshop. I am always blown away by people who truly love what they do, innovate in their field and share their knowledge. Most of the time I get obsessed with objects and ideas that live on a thin line between analog and digital.
